This 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari combines the highlights of gorilla trekking and a glimpse into Rwandan culture by visiting Iby’iwacu Cultural Village Experience formerly known as  the Gorilla Guardians Village. The mountain gorillas live deep in the jungles of the Virunga volcanoes shared between Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. This tour takes you to Volcanoes National Park, which offers the perfect habitat for mountain gorillas found in northern Rwanda on the border with Uganda. Enjoy views of communities and the beautiful landscape of the land of a thousand hills.

3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Upon arriving at the airport or being picked up from your hotel, you’ll set off on a brief city tour of Kigali. Discover key historical and cultural sites, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, local craft markets, Kandt National Museum, and the Presidential Museum. After the tour, enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Kigali, where you can savor local or continental dishes. Following lunch, you’ll travel to Volcanoes National Park, the home of the mountain gorillas..

  • Drive time: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Helicopter (Augusta): 35 minutes
  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you to the briefing area for your gorilla trek. While waiting for everyone to gather, enjoy traditional Rwandan dances and a hot cup of Rwandan coffee. The ranger guide will brief you on what to expect during the trek and will divide participants into different trekking groups. Depending on the location of the allocated gorilla family, you will be transferred to the trailhead.

In the afternoon, relax and recuperate from the gorilla trekking experience or opt for an additional activity such as visiting the Musanze Caves or the twin lakes.

Day 3: Gorilla Guardians Village & Departure

After the exhilarating gorilla trekking experience, explore Rwandan culture at the Gorilla Guardians Village fromerly known as  Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. Learn about the history and traditions of Rwanda, and meet former poachers who now contribute to conservation efforts by sharing their cultural heritage. This cultural visit supports the local community and promotes sustainable tourism.

After the cultural experience, you will be transferred back to your hotel or to the airport for your departure.
