Owino Market Tours

Owino is the biggest outdoor market in Uganda and whole Africa with more than 800,000 vendors.

There is also a documentary made about this market titled “Heart of Kampala”.

Owino Market is said to be the largest in Africa and is a mixed grill market with stalls selling clothes, food, spices and household goods.

Over the years fires have ripped through Owino but it still exists.

Before getting to Owino, please keep your valuables and money safely.

Owino Market sells every thing from foodstuffs to clothes, Shoes, Hardware.

Blacksmiths are available as well as Restaurants and Bars all mixed

Smoking of funny weeds is prevalent in sections of Owino market.

Do not get tired of kids screaming ” give me money, give me money” it is normal just walk on or throw a coin and see a battle of the kids for the coin.

“mzungu mzungu” tourists are rarely seen in Owino but people are very friendly, perhaps a bit pushy – mzungu come buy my shoes, mzungu come buy my bags, mzungu come see my dress, mzungu come buy some oranges.

You should be aware of pickpockets but you will have no bad experience as long as you are with our guide, believe me.

After all your tour find a chilly beer and meal.

Ugandans are soccer crazy. Avoid time when Premiership matches are on – Ugandans are great soccer fans and the place will be full, you could even get in trouble wearing a wrong t-shirt. Do not appear to support any team, do not yell when any team scores, Ugandans do not mind fighting for teams they simply watch playing on Television.

If you have not been to OWINO MARKET you have not been to Kampala.

Owino Market is a must visit, must see.
